A Primer on Fief Loot Portals

Earn rewards and run your very own Fiefdom node with Loot Portals

Introduction

Fief is introducing a new NFT that will function as the primary utility-driven collectible on the Fiefdom network.

Called, “Loot Portals,” these NFTs provide special utility across the Fief ecosystem. The first Common rarity Loot Portals will be available for purchase in December via a Rarible-supported drop.

The following is a breakdown of the key information you need to know prior to the sale.

Loot Portal Functionality

Loot Portals will have utility across Fiefdom (network), Fief Protocol (dapps), and Fiefverse (gaming). The utility will range in both requirements and level of difficulty for the user.

Fief Protocol

Tier 1: Loot Boxes (User Difficulty Level: Easy)

On-chain reward vehicle that programmatically distributes Loot Boxes to the holder on a weekly basis. Loot Boxes are on-chain collectibles that can be freely traded on Fiefdom via the Fief Marketplace, or any supported secondary marketplace.

Loot Boxes come in a variety of themes, types, and rarities. Each Loot Box has a predetermined payload and associated odds of earning any given reward found within. When a user opens a Loot Box, it burns the NFT and distributes the random payload.

Found within Loot Boxes will be everything from Fief ecosystem tokens, including FIEF gas token or the upcoming Fiefdom community memecoin Troll Toll, to in-game assets such as Fiefverse Avatar wearables, Fiefverse Hex land assets, and much more.

The plan is to introduce an increasing number of unique Loot Boxes that carry dedicated rewards for specific game titles, events, and even projects that build on the Fiefdom.

Note: This functionality will be the first major dapp built on Fiefdom by the Fief Protocol team. This will be accompanied by Fief Marketplace and FiefSwap, a decentralized exchange dedicated to trading metaverse tokens that is already live in testnet on Ethereum (to be ported to Fiefdom first).

Fiefverse

Tier 2: Game Asset (User Difficulty Level: Medium)

As special on-chain assets, Loot Portals can function across Fiefverse game titles in unique ways.

The primary use case that is first planned for all Loot Portals is as a unique building for the core Fiefverse Avatar RPG, which features a special Hex Land gameplay.

Each Loot Portal will be accessible via your in-game inventory to be placed on Hex land. The distribution of Hex land will occur on Fiefdom, with a dedicated sale and through Loot Boxes.

Fiefdom

Tier 3: Decentralized Content Distribution Network (dCDN) Node (User Difficulty Level: Expert)

Fiefdom is a new blockchain network dedicated to on-chain gaming and trading. The primary function of the network is to provide a fast, secure and low-cost environment for participating in the metaverse.

As an Orbit chain built using the Arbitrum nitro stack via the expert team at Caldera, Fiefdom benefits from significant technical advancements that have simplified the deployment and maintenance of the chain. This has unlocked the ability for the core Fief contributors to focus on unique adjacent systems that support the decentralized missions of the chain

One innovation is Fiefdom’s planned decentralized content distribution network, or “dCDN”. The dCDN is a specialized network layer situated above the Fiefdom blockchain, designed to efficiently distribute digital content. While it leverages the underlying blockchain for certain functionalities like transactions and smart contract interactions, its primary focus is on content delivery, particularly for on-chain gaming. This is particularly powerful for browser-based games, which allow for the greatest web3 interactions.

Owners of Loot Portal NFTs have a license to spin up their own virtual server to run a Fiefdom dCDN node. This unlocks the ability to contribute to the network and in turn, earn rewards in the form of a steady distribution of FIEF tokens and more.

Market Opportunity

The next stage of NFT gaming will see a major push towards introducing on-chain elements directly into gameplay due to the blockchain-level improvements in scalability.

On-chain games fall across a spectrum from fully on-chain, where all game functions require a transaction / signature, to select utility that enhance core gameplay.

Fiefdom aims to establish itself as a financial district of the metaverse, where dapps dedicated to trading and earning on metaverse assets propagate in a permissionless environment. We believe that this focus will help turn the new network into a perpetual black hole of metaverse liquidity, which will support the next generation of on-chain games that heavily lean into this liquidity for unique gaming experiences.

Key Concepts

Node Licensing and Categories

  • NFT Licensing: Nodes are licensed through Loot Portal NFTs of varying rarities, corresponding to node categories: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Majestic.
  • Rarity-Based Node Energy: The rarity of the NFT determines the base energy level of a node.

Node Energy System

  • Staking FIEF: Node energy can be boosted by staking FIEF tokens. The more FIEF staked in a node, the higher its energy.
  • Staker Incentives: Stakers are rewarded with a share of the node’s earnings, proportionate to their staked amount.

Reward Distribution

  • Hourly FIEF Distribution: Nodes compete for a share of an hourly FIEF token distribution from a total pool of X FIEF – to be unveiled.
  • Proportional Allocation: Rewards are distributed based on each node’s energy relative to the total network energy.

Game Priority and Community Engagement

  • Game Priority Auction: Game developers can bid FIEF tokens to secure priority slots for their games, ensuring better and faster content delivery.
  • Community Boosting: FIEF token holders can allocate tokens to boost the priority of their favorite games, increasing their visibility and accessibility on the network.

Benefits of the Fiefdom dCDN

The Fiefdom dCDN delivers a litany of benefits to the on-chain / browser gaming ecosystem on-top of the Fiefdom Network.

At scale, the dCDN will unlock the following benefits:

  • Efficient Game Content Delivery: The dCDN is optimized to serve large files required for browser-based games, ensuring fast load times and smooth gameplay.
  • Scalability and Resilience: With decentralized nodes, the network can handle high traffic and is resilient to localized outages or performance issues.
  • Dynamic Content Prioritization: Based on community engagement and developer bids, popular games can be prioritized, ensuring that they are readily accessible to players.
  • Reduced Latency: By serving content from geographically distributed nodes, the dCDN reduces latency, which is crucial for real-time browser games.

Once live, the Fief contributors building the Fiefverse plan to pioneer adoption by bringing both Fief Hex land play and Fiefverse Survival onto the dCDN network.

Deployment Stages

Following the launch of the mainnet of Fiefdom in Q1 2024, the next major technical infrastructure to be released will be the licensing of Fiefdom dCDN nodes where NFT holders will be able to spin up their nodes on a virtual machine.

The exact VPS requirements will be published in separate documentation.

During the initial deployment stage, users will be able to spin up their node, establish their node energy and begin to earn the FIEF gas token. A dedicated node roadmap will follow including software updates to allow for non-node FIEF holders staking into nodes for rewards and Fiefverse-specific content delivery.

Supply and Sale Details

Loot Portal NFTs are primarily distinguished by two major qualifiers:

  1. Theme
  2. Rarity

Theme of a Loot Portal determines its NFT-based traits (metadata) and in certain situations, the type of Loot Boxes that are commonly and/or specially delivered to the holder.

For the initial sale of Common Loot Portals on Ethereum and higher rarities on Fiefdom, the theme of the Loot Portals is the main Fiefverse RPG, the premier in-game thematic of the entire Fief project.

Future sales on Fiefdom will follow other themes, including game titles like Fiefverse Survival or in time, game titles from independent game developers wanting to build on the network.

Rarity of a Loot Portal determines its relative supply and base node energy, which impacts its weight within the dCDN. Node energy will be consistent across rarities for all themes.

– Supply Information –

The total supplies of Fief Loot Portals is seen in the table above. The first 3,000 Common rarity Loot Portals will be available in the introductory sale prior to the mainnet launch of Fiefdom. These will be exclusively themed around Fiefverse.

While we have established this initial supply as a goal for adequate decentralization of the node network, there is a scenario where supply caps are expanded to accommodate greater decentralization and Fief-economy benefiting inclusion of new entrants.

Higher rarity Loot Portals within the Fiefverse main RPG theme will be available on Fiefdom for purchase. Supply and pricing of these rarities will be available in separate documentation.

Please note: Loot Portals are the natural progression of the original IGM and all IGM holders will receive a rarity-matched Loot Portal following the launch of mainnet Fiefdom.

– Initial Sale Information –

The initial sale of Common Loot Portals will occur in December 2023.

The Common Loot Portal sale price is 0.1 ETH

There are 24 different types of initial Common Loot Portals available, fitting into the thematics of the main High Fantasy Fiefverse world.

Thematic traits will be as follows:

  • Rarity (1 of 6): Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Majestic
While there are 6 to be represented in metadata, only the Common will be sold on prior to the mainnet launch of Fiefdom.
  • Biome (1 of 6): Desert, Tundra, Grassland, Volcanic, Enchanted, Genesis
